(NEW) Single Receiver GPS Precise Positioning (NEW)

How would you like it if someone could step onto your airplane with a simple hand-held device and -- in less than 2 hours -- produce high precision, professional publishing quality takeoff and landing performance charts for your flight manual supplement or pilot operating handbook?

Here's how it can be done...

For the last decade, differential GPS has been the flight test standard for measuring takeoff and landing distances.  This is how the major aircraft manufacturers do it, but it has always been hampered by the requirement for setting up a base station at a known, surveyed position and installing complicated, expensive and sometimes unreliable telemetry equipment on your airplane.

Approved by the Airworthiness Authorities in 2004 for collecting aircraft position data for certification, we are now offering a low cost single receiver GPS package that is capable of achieving centimeter to decimeter accuracy in both horizontal and vertical position.

Applications include:

  • Takeoff performance
  • Landing performance
  • Braking performance
  • Vmcg runway centerline deviation
  • Ground and in-flight position error determination
  • RVSM

This solution completely eliminates the requirement for a base station and expensive post-processing software.

There is no telemetry requirement and test repeats due to telemetry dropouts are a thing of the past.

The system employs a receiver with data logging capability in one package with minimal equipment installation requirements -- so we can literally show up at your site, walk onto the airplane and begin testing immediately.

Ultra-low cost is achieved by utilizing the existing publicly available GPS infrastructure and open-source software.

And the best thing is -- we can do it for you OR show you how to do it yourself in the fastest time and at the least expense possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can you help me design and implement a flight test program for my airplane?

With over 35 years of flight test experience on over 130 different new, modified, and special missions aircraft types, we have an extremely knowledgeable in-house staff of expert certification flight test professionals.  We can provide a complete certification flight test package for programs of any complexity, ranging from identification of the certification basis and preparation of compliance programs to writing certification flight test plans, carrying out ground and in-flight performance, flight characteristics, systems performance, and acoustics flight testing, engineering data analysis, making recommendations for product improvement, preparing engineering reports to document test results, and AFM supplement publishing.

What are your data analysis capabilities?

Performance: We are capable of performing any FAR 23 or FAR 25 aircraft performance analysis, including determining: air data calibrations, stall performance, climb performance, glide performance, takeoff/approach/landing reference speeds, takeoff/landing/accelerate-stop/braking performance, obstacle clearance and net takeoff flight path, and determination of installed thrust and power.

Flight Characteristics: We can complete the qualitative and quantitative analysis of any FAR 23 or FAR 25 flight characteristics, handling qualities, or static and dynamic stability and control requirement.

Systems: In addition to all of the pilot operational evaluation items, we can assist with developing airplane operating procedures, determine unusable fuel supply, plan and implement hot fuel testing, carry out and document engine water ingestion testing, complete powerplant cooling testing including correction of measured temperatures to standard "hot day" conditions, perform autopilot/flight director tracking performance testing and data analysis, determine autopilot/autothrottle minimum engage and disengage heights, and correct FAR 36 Appendix G noise data to standard day conditions -- plus much more.

What are the qualifications of your flight test engineers and test pilots?

All of our personnel are graduate engineers from accredited universities.  Our engineering test pilots are all military test pilot school graduates with significant military and civil flight test and certification experience.  We are all intimately familiar with the civil CAR 3, CAR 4, FAR 23, and FAR 25 certification requirements and airworthiness approval process.  We have delegated DAR flight analysts and test pilots in-house.

How can I reduce my flight test related costs?

We are very flexible and have a solution to meet almost any budget.  We can work together with you to identify the flight test requirements for your specific program and minimize testing by only carrying out essential testing in a well organized and efficient manner.  We can support large portions of the planning and data analysis phases of the flight testing off site to minimize travel-related expenses.  We can maximize hand recording of data from calibrated ship's instruments where possible to minimize the amount of instrumentation required - while still ensuring that your flight test program proceeds in a logical and organized order, is completed safely and in a timely manner, and meets all of your objectives and schedule milestones.

What types of aircraft modifications do you support?

We have been directly involved with airworthiness approvals on a wide range of STC modifications, including: gross weight increases, performance enhancement programs, STOL kit installations, addition of floats or amphibious floats, fuselage stretches, fire fighting aircraft (air tankers), external modifications (including installation of radomes, FLIRs, external cameras, and antennas), autopilot development and certification, incorporation of head-up displays, and many miscellaneous systems modifications.

Do you support rotary wing (helicopter) flight testing?

Sorry, we are specialized in fixed wing aircraft flight testing and certification.

Do you support RVSM certifications?

Yes.  We are capable of performing precision air data calibrations and demonstrating RVSM compliance for any airplane type.  We do not support fleet RVSM qualification at this time.

How can I contact you to get more information about the products and services that you provide - or to get a quote for flight test services?

This page contains all of the ways that we can be contacted.  We are in the office from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm (sometimes longer) Monday thru Friday.  A real person who is friendly and helpful is on the other end of the phone - ready to answer any questions that you might have.  If we're out of the office, feel free to leave a voice message and we'll get back to you as soon as possible (usually within one business day).
