(NEW) Single Receiver GPS Precise Positioning (NEW)

How would you like it if someone could step onto your airplane with a simple hand-held device and -- in less than 2 hours -- produce high precision, professional publishing quality takeoff and landing performance charts for your flight manual supplement or pilot operating handbook?

Here's how it can be done...

For the last decade, differential GPS has been the flight test standard for measuring takeoff and landing distances.  This is how the major aircraft manufacturers do it, but it has always been hampered by the requirement for setting up a base station at a known, surveyed position and installing complicated, expensive and sometimes unreliable telemetry equipment on your airplane.

Approved by the Airworthiness Authorities in 2004 for collecting aircraft position data for certification, we are now offering a low cost single receiver GPS package that is capable of achieving centimeter to decimeter accuracy in both horizontal and vertical position.

Applications include:

  • Takeoff performance
  • Landing performance
  • Braking performance
  • Vmcg runway centerline deviation
  • Ground and in-flight position error determination
  • RVSM

This solution completely eliminates the requirement for a base station and expensive post-processing software.

There is no telemetry requirement and test repeats due to telemetry dropouts are a thing of the past.

The system employs a receiver with data logging capability in one package with minimal equipment installation requirements -- so we can literally show up at your site, walk onto the airplane and begin testing immediately.

Ultra-low cost is achieved by utilizing the existing publicly available GPS infrastructure and open-source software.

And the best thing is -- we can do it for you OR show you how to do it yourself in the fastest time and at the least expense possible.

Modified & Special Missions Aircraft

Modified Airplane STC Airworthiness Approvals

Here are just a few of the modified airplanes that we have had direct involvement with as flight test consultants:

Conair Aviation Turbo "Firecat" S2 Tracker Air Tanker Conversion

The Conair Turbo Firecat is the turboprop version of the Grumman S-2 Tracker air tanker.  The airplane, including the fire fighting mission, was cleared by Baker Aviation Services in 1988.

Australian Customs Coastwatch Martime Patrol Dash 8 Model 202

The Australian Customs "Coastwatch" de Havilland Dash 8-202 maritime patrol aircraft was certified by Field Aviation of Mississauga, Ontario in 1995.  All flight testing was carried out by Baker Aviation Services.

Bombardier Global Express Airborne Standoff Radar (ASTOR) PlatformThe Bombardier Global Express Airborne Standoff Radar (ASTOR) platform was developed for the British MoD.  Aerodynamic clearance was completed by Bombardier Aerospace in 2002.  The owner of Baker Aviation Services was one of two flight test engineers assigned to the program.
Geoterrex Dash 7 Airborne Electromagnetic Survey (MEGATEM) System

Entering service in 1998, this de Havilland Dash-7 airborne electromagnetic survey "MEGATEM" system is now operated by Fugro Airborne Systems (formerly Geoterrex).  Envelope expansion, flight characteristics development and evaluation, and performance determination was completed by Baker Aviation Services as the prime flight test contractor.  The airplane was certified in Canada in the restricted category for special missions operations.

Gulfstream II special missions aircraft

This highly modified Gulfstream II special missions aircraft incorporates a modified nosecone and under-wing stores.  Multiple nose and store configurations were cleared by Baker Aviation Services in the mid-1990's.

With our extensive aerodynamic development and airworthiness evaluation experience with airplanes that have undergone significant external modifications, we're qualified to manage projects of any magnitude.

We have significant experience with coordinating STC approvals with the airworthiness authorities for modified and special missions airplanes.   Our proven safe and efficient envelope expansion techniques allow us to open the flight envelope of any modified airplane quickly and identify problems early -- an approach that can save an enormous amount of time and money.

Some of the modification programs that we have been involved with include:

  • Radome / FLIR / external camera installations
  • Addition of under-wing stores to civil aircraft
  • Electromagnetic survey aircraft
  • Nose extensions
  • Wing leading edge modifications - including STOL kit installations
  • Performance enhancement programs
  • Installation of straight or amphibious floats
  • Powerplant conversions
  • Propeller changes
  • Gross weight increases
  • Conversion of civil and military aircraft to fire fighting (air tanker) configuration

Do you have a major mod program coming up?  Contact us today to find out how we can help you develop a customized flight test solution that meets the unique requirements of your certification program and will get the job done in the most cost effective and efficient way possible.
